Daily Challenge Recap

Diamonds Loses by 116; Partner's Spades Run and Bella Win by 70

Your own cards say little here. The suit that wins is your Partner's, and both a run and a Bella come with it.

The hand

Your first six cards are the 9 of hearts, the 8 of diamonds, the King and 9 of clubs, and the 9 and 7 of spades. The kitty is the 8 of spades, the 7 of hearts and the 6 of clubs.

Your six cards are the 9 of hearts, the 8 of diamonds, the 9 and king of clubs and the 9 and 7 of spades. The kitty is the 7 of hearts, the 6 of clubs and the 8 of spades. Trump is spades.
Your first six cards, then the kitty you pick up after calling spades.

The decision

Diamonds is the call the numbers lean toward, and it loses 33 to 149. Opponent 1 holds the Ace and Jack. Hearts loses 78 to 104 and clubs 73 to 109.

Spades wins 136 to 66. You hold the 9, 7 and 8, and your Partner holds the King, Queen and Jack. The Ace is with the opponents, but the Jack and the Nine are with you. The King, Queen and Jack are a 20 run, and the King and Queen are a Bella, worth another 20.

The line that wins

The hard AI, playing all four seats with the cards face up, won five of nine tricks with spades as trump.

Trick 4: the Jack takes 44

Your Partner leads the Jack of spades. You add the Nine and Opponent 1 can only put the 10 on it. The trick is worth 44.

Trick 9: the King finishes

Your Partner leads the King of spades on the last trick for 23 points with the bonus.

Nine tricks with spades as trump. You win trick 2; your Partner wins tricks 3, 4, 7 and 9; Opponent 1 wins tricks 1, 6 and 8; Opponent 2 wins trick 5.
Every trick in order. A gold outline marks the winner.

The takeaway

A run and a Bella are not the same thing, and a hand can hold both. Read runs and Bella.
