About Play Some Bish

This is a kitchen-table card game, not a casino app. Play Some Bish is the free online home of Tarabish, the Cape Breton trick-taking game, built by someone who actually plays.

Who's behind it

Hi, I'm Kyle Steele. I built Play Some Bish.

Funny enough, I didn't learn Tarabish growing up in Cape Breton. I picked it up as a student at Acadia University in the early 2000s, and once I learned, I never stopped playing. These days I'm at the table nearly every weekend with my wife and our friends, whenever we can pull it together.

I've always been a tinkerer. I built computers as a kid, worked at the Staples on Grand Lake Road through high school, and started at Acadia as a computer science major. I switched out of that program in my first year, but I never lost the itch to program and figure out how things work.

In the fall of 2025 it felt like the right time for another online Tarabish option. I wanted the game to have a place to live when people can't play in person. I wanted it looked after and updated regularly. And I wanted it to welcome people who've never played before.

Play Some Bish is an independent project. It isn't affiliated with any card company or publisher.

What you'll find here

  • The game. Play the computer, deal your buddies in for an online game, or take the Daily Challenge. It's free.
  • The rules. Everything you need to sit down at a table and hold your own.
  • Lessons. How points work, when to call trump, why the Jack beats everything, and what to do about a bait.
  • The Daily Recap. Each day I go back over the Daily Challenge hand and show what the best line looked like.

How I do it

Real cards, real rules, real Cape Breton. The card art is the real deck you'd use at the table. The trump order, the baits, the runs and Bella are all here the way people actually play them. Where the online game differs from a house rule you know, I'll say so.

Where the rules come from

The rules page is written in plain language, adapted from the community write-up at goCapeBreton.com, with history from The World of Playing Cards. Credit and thanks to both.
