Daily Challenge Recap
Partner Takes the Clubs
One Jack, one Queen of hearts, and a Partner who happens to hold the Ace and 10 of clubs. You win it, but this is a hand about trusting the table.
The hand
Your first six cards are the Queen, 9 and 7 of hearts, the Jack of diamonds and the Queen and 8 of clubs. The game rates this a weak call. Diamonds is where the Jack lives, so that is the call.
The kitty brings the 10 of diamonds, the 10 of spades and the 6 of hearts.
The line that wins
The hard AI, playing all four seats with the cards face up, won six of nine tricks, 101 to 61. Most of the winning is done by your Partner, who takes five tricks.
Trick 2: the Jack, because you must beat the lead
Your Partner leads the Queen of diamonds. When trump is led, you have to beat it if you can, and the Jack is the one card nobody can top. It wins 23 points.
Tricks 4, 5 and 6: feed your Partner, then run the clubs
Your Partner leads the 9 of diamonds and you feed the 10 onto it for 24 points. Then your Partner cashes the Ace and the 10 of clubs. You follow with the 8 and the Queen, and your side picks up 13 and 17 points.
Where it's easy to go wrong
Trick 7. Your Partner leads the 9 of clubs, you have no clubs and no trump left, and Opponent 1 cuts with the Ace of diamonds for 15 points. Opponent 2 then takes the last two tricks, 23 points each. Hearts and clubs both win this deal too, 83 to 79 and 94 to 68. Spades loses 13 to 149, and you hold none in your first six.
The takeaway
You do not have to hold every good card. With a Partner who does, your job is to feed them points and stay out of the way. Read the 162 on the table to see where every point in this hand came from.
